Two dogs were found lifeless and hanging from a tree in a Florida backyard, leading to the arrest of their owner.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said that on Sunday evening, deputies responded to a home in Fort Pierce regarding a civil matter.
When deputies arrived at 5:29 p.m., they reported finding two lifeless dogs hanging from a tree in the backyard.
SLCSO said that the dogs, male and female, were bound by their necks using multiple materials, including ropes, chains, and cables.
Detectives obtained a search warrant on Monday morning for the home owned by Salomon Cruz-Perez.
With the continued investigation detectives determined the dogs were bound with coaxial cable, paracord, tie-down straps, and chains.
The dead dogs have been collected by St. Lucie County Animal Control and will be sent to Orlando for a necropsy. Officials said that this examination aims to clarify the cause and circumstances of their deaths.
Cruz-Perez, 40, has been accused of two counts of aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death.
He is currently being held at the St. Lucie County Jail, with a bond set at $60,000.
