COAL VALLEY, Ill. (KWQC) –Niabi Zoo welcomes the return of the zoo’s most steadfast conservation partner, Dr. Greg Rasmussen from Painted Dog Research while promoting two fundraisers this week where proceeds will be used to protect the endangered species.
In 2024, Joel Vanderbush, Niabi Zoo, helped establish Painted Dog Research USA to support Dr. Greg’s team in Zimbabwe. And now the zoo is involved in facilitating a national tour for him that began in California at the beginning of February and has found him making his way across the country on the Painted Dog Research awareness and fundraising tour.
The zoo is also hosting two upcoming adult events this week:
- Wednesday, March 19: Pints for Painted Dogs at 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Front Street Brewery & Taproom at the Freight House. The event is free, the beer is not. Donations to help protect painted dogs is welcomed (and encouraged). Proceeds will go to support the continued conservation efforts of PDR for painted dogs in the field.
- Friday, March 21: Wine & Design–Paint a Painted Dog from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It’s $50 per person. Register here.
Niabi Zoo is located at 13010 Niabi Zoo Road, Coal Valley, IL. For more information, visit the zoo online at https://www.niabizoo.com/ or call 309-799-3482.
