You can see rescue dogs backflip at The Big E — but for them, it’s just playtime

FrizzB. Dawg, a rescue mudi, flies through the air in a backflip in front of a large crowd at The Big E. At the same time, her owner tosses a flying disc end over end in the air.

She snatches the flying disc mid-air. And the crowd begins to cheer.

But she’s not done. She proceeds to catch multiple other discs thrown by Disc-Connected K9 owner, Lawrence Frederick.

The performance is worth the watch at The Big E in West Springfield. But for FrizzB. Dawg, it’s just playtime with her owner.

Disc-Connected K9 has 13 dogs that participate in various shows over the course of the 17-day fair, which ends Sept. 29. The show is three times a day, and includes different dogs — and tricks — at each show.

To start training, Frederick said they play with the dogs “so that we learn what they like to do, and we build our routines around that.”

There are certain tricks that all the dogs can do. But then there are some, such as the Butterfly Backflip, that are specialized to certain dogs.

Frederick created the trick with his dog FrizzB. Dawg. It has been two years and nobody has been able to recreate it.

However, if you can pull it off — and prove it — he’s offering reward money.

All the dogs in the show have been rescued by the nonprofit Disc-Connected K9, coming from homelessness, shelters or abandonment.

“… even though a dog may not fit into someone’s lifestyle or their situation within their family, they can excel in others where it’s the right position for them,” Frederick said.

But their 13 show dogs aren’t the only ones they’ve rescued.

The Disc-Connected K9s has been rescuing dogs since 1992. Over the years, the nonprofit has helped hundreds of dogs as they travel the world performing and training.

Attendees at The Big E can enjoy the show, get “jaw-tographed” flying discs that have been bitten by the dogs and get photos with them.

People can go home and teach the tricks to their own dogs. Frederick suggests keeping training sessions to under five minutes and always make sure you’re having fun.

“If it’s fun, you’re going to want to do it a lot more than if it’s not,” he said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
