The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area has revamped a program that gives shelter dogs a different way to connect with future families.
Shelter Skip Day allows people to sign out a dog from the humane society for a day out on the town, as long as the dog is returned to the shelter an hour before it closes.
Anyone who loves dogs is encouraged to participate, whether or not they are looking to adopt. Those who do will be provided with supplies and a list of dog-friendly places they can visit. Some of those include hiking trails, going for a drive, visiting a dog-friendly coffee shop and more.
Suggested areas to visit are available via this custom Google Map.
“We are so excited to re-launch this fun opportunity for dog lovers who want to spend time helping homeless animals, but may not be ready to adopt,” Adam Lamb, executive director, said in a news release.
Pick-ups can be made Tuesdays-Fridays between 12-3 p.m. or Saturdays and Sundays between 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Dogs who are taken out must wear Adopt Me vests and harnesses, and the shelter will match participants with a dog appropriate for their leash-handling capabilities.
