WRPD’s K9 Polar nominated for national therapy dog award

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. – K9 Polar, the West Richland Police Department’s therapy dog, was nominated for the First Responder Paws Therapy Dog award.

Polar will compete against 16 other therapy dogs across the country with voting opening Nov. 25. The public can submit their vote up until Dec. 4.

The winning dog and their handler will get a $2,000 check from FHE Health, a gift basket from Chewy, a feature blog and a $2,500 donation in their honor to the First Responders Pack Foundation.

Polar works as an emotional support dog for WRPD and the West Richland community. He was trained by the Mattox Dog Training Academy which trains service dogs for veterans with PTSD and other disabilities.

With WRPD, Polar eases tensions at department trainings and meetings and has even played the role of a hostage victim.

To vote for Polar, visit the FHE Health website between Nov. 25 and Dec. 4.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
