Among the things these two Guinness World Record holders have in common? A sizeable wardrobe and diva behavior.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — In a meeting that gives new meaning to the phrase “opposites attract,” the world’s tallest and shortest dogs came face-to-paw earlier this month.
Reginald, who goes by Reggie, a Great Dane from Idaho standing 3 feet 3 inches tall, and Pearl, a 3.59-inch Chihuahua from Florida, bridged their 3-foot height difference during their first-ever meetup at Reggie’s home.
The Guinness World Records title holders — Reggie for tallest living dog (male) and Pearl for shortest living dog — got along surprisingly well despite their dramatic size difference.
“When Pearl meets bigger dogs, she is really friendly. I think she has no idea she is a small dog,” said Vanesa Semler, Pearl’s owner, who made the journey from Florida to Idaho for the meetup to spare Reggie from an uncomfortably tight flight.

The encounter, coordinated by Guinness World Records as part of its 70th anniversary celebration, went even smoother than expected. Reggie, seemingly aware of his massive size, was notably careful around his tiny new friend.
“Obviously, bringing the smallest dog in the world with the tallest dog in the world, there was a little bit of anxiety,” said Sam Johnson Reiss, Reggie’s owner. “He was very gentle, very, very kind to Pearl, as best as he could be.”
After initial introductions indoors, where Pearl happily ran across Reggie’s giant legs “like he was a big teddy bear,” the pair ventured outside to explore together. Both dogs eventually tired themselves out from play, taking well-earned naps.
Despite their size difference, the two dogs found common ground. Among the things they have in common? A sizeable wardrobe and diva behavior.
“They have more similarities than differences,” said Johnson Reiss. “People say ‘only small dogs wear clothing’, but Reggie has a bunch of sweaters he wears… ‘small dogs are high maintenance’, but Reggie is very, very high maintenance. So I think they’re more alike than they are different.”
“Pearl’s wardrobe, I think, is bigger than mine,” Semler added. “She loves clothing, I think because she’s always cold.”
“I think you can see through the photos and videos the love we have for our pets,” Semler said. “They’re part of the family.”
As for the unlikely friendship that formed between these record-breaking canines, Reggie’s owner believes the pair will be “friends fur-ever.”
