Women brawl over limited-edition handbags in sale, pulling hair as chaos erupts

Chaos broke out outside a popular shopping centre in Thailand when a heated argument over rare handbags escalated into a physical brawl, with one woman having her hair violently pulled.

More than 150 shoppers had lined up outside the Central Westgate Shopping Center in Bang Yai district, hoping to purchase one of the 300 limited-edition handbags on sale.

However, as the sale time approached, tensions flared, leading to a scuffle that prompted an urgent police response.

Panic after the fight

A large number of shoppers had been sitting along the walkway, while some lay on the pavement and grass to secure their spots in line. After the fight, clumps of hair were found on the ground, presumably ripped out during the altercation.

Security officials and police later informed the crowd that the store had cancelled the sale. Soon after, vehicles arrived to pick up those who had been waiting in line.

Hired agents to stand in line

Among the crowd was 27-year-old Suferat Pongsaksri, who revealed that she and her friends had been hired as “line sitters” to secure spots for clients—many of whom intended to resell the handbags at a higher price.

Each buyer was allowed to purchase only two handbags. The sale was set to begin at 10am, and agents were promised 800 baht for a successful purchase, 700 baht for securing a single bag, and 400 baht if they failed to buy any.

Crowd disperses before police arrival

Pongsaksri stated that security personnel struggled to manage the crowd, which consisted of dozens of eager buyers. However, by the time the police arrived, the crowd had already dispersed, and no official complaints or injuries were reported.

The brand’s social media team announced on March 22 that handbag sales had been suspended indefinitely until a safe shopping environment could be ensured.

Chaos at Dublin shopping centre

In a separate incident the same week, panic ensued at a major shopping centre in Dublin, Ireland, when a man who had been stabbed on a nearby street stumbled into the premises, causing widespread fear.

The incident occurred near Henry Street, where the victim was attacked with a knife. Shortly after, police and paramedics arrived at the scene, sealing off the area.

The injured man was rushed to the hospital, where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

A witness described the scene as “blood everywhere,” with terrified shoppers fleeing the centre.

However, the premises were reopened a short time later. Authorities are still investigating the attack.
