Woman’s dog starts hiding when boyfriend cooks—Can’t believe the reason why

When a woman’s dog huddled in the corner while her boyfriend started cooking, she knew something had happened, but she wasn’t prepared for the answer.

Owner Danielle became concerned when she noticed her dachshund hiding. She’s never seen him do that before, which worried her. The dog started shaking in fear. She turned to her boyfriend and asked what was going on.

As it turns out, the dog has been doing this while Danielle is at work and the boyfriend cooks.

The text overlay on Danielle’s April 27 TikTok video posted to her account @danielleg_ revealed that her boyfriend said he usually sets off the fire alarm while he cooks. The loud sound from the alarm traumatized the dog. And now, the dog uses the boyfriend going into the kitchen as a signal to hide.

In the clip, Danielle filmed her dog hurrying to the corner by the door. He looked at her with hopeful eyes that she would step in and take over. The dog’s tail curled under his back paws. He was terrified. She wrote in the caption that the dog will also go to the bathroom and hide.

Newsweek reached out to @danielleg_ via TikTok for comment.

People’s hearts broke after seeing how scared the dog looked, and within two days of posting, the TikTok video reached over 6.8 million views, 1.6 million likes and 2,710 comments.

“He wanna make sure he’s the first thing out if he really sets the apt on fire,” said one viewer.

A second person commented: “The way he looked at, ‘Mom, please get him away from that stove.'”

Another commenter wrote: “Mine does the exact same thing all because we set it off ONE TIME. Now we have to open the bedroom door so she can hide.”

Loud sounds, such as fireworks, can cause dogs to become fearful, but some canines might be more sensitive to the noises, leading them to develop noise phobias.

A veterinarian explained in a PetMD article that noise phobias are the extreme, persistent fear of a sound that is out of proportion to the real danger. Common causes of noise phobias include fireworks, gunshots, vacuums and fire alarms.

As seen in the video above, even before the fire alarm goes off, the dog was triggered, which happens to canines with phobias. He associated someone cooking because it reminds him of the loud sound.

Dogs experiencing noise phobia might pace, pant, tremble or hypersalivate, the article stated. Owners might also notice their ears flat, eyes wide and tails tucked. Some dogs might seek comfort from their owners, while others will hide in a dark and quiet space.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
