Woman thinks she’s filming dog sunbathing—can’t believe what she captures

A precious, unexpected moment between a butterfly and a dog quickly went viral, capturing the internet’s heart.

In TikTok user @logangb123’s February 26 video, the owner’s Bavarian mountain hound, Gunnar, sat outside on the couch to enjoy the sunshine. Gunnar was minding his business, trying to relax, when something started floating around his head. As she looked closer, she realized a butterfly paid her dog a visit.

She immediately wanted to capture the moment, as you do not normally see butterflies and dogs interacting. Dogs don’t usually eat butterflies, but an article from Our Fit Pets said that they enjoy chasing them because dogs are predators. A dog who tries biting a butterfly could be doing so for the chase, but contact your veterinarian in case they do ingest the insect.

The owner told Newsweek via TikTok that she knew she had to be cautious if she wanted to film the moment, making sure not to distract her dog. She snuck to a window, carefully opened the blinds and started recording.

Gunnar calmly sat still, following the butterfly’s path with his head. His eyes filled with amazement. Then, surprisingly, the butterfly took a break and landed on the tip of his nose. Gunnar tilted his head up and the butterfly flapped its wings. The moment looked to be straight from a Disney movie.

“I really couldn’t believe it!” she said. “The butterfly had already been around him for a few minutes, and I noticed it landed on his nose, but it would never leave his area.”

Viewer Reactions

The TikTok video reached more than 1.9 million views, 326,900 likes and 1,425 comments as of Monday. People immediately fell in love with the two animals, calling it the “sweetest moment.”

“Aw! He is a princess! Some loved one came to visit you and also saw your gorgeous fur baby,” commented one viewer.

A second person added: “Friendship comes in both small and large sizes.”

A viewer said: “Dogs and all animals are soo innocent. I don’t know why people mistreat them.”

Several suggested that the owner memorialize the moment by getting it as a painting. Another mentioned: “If you don’t get this tattooed on you, I will.”
