Woman tells dog drop it, left gagging after realizing what was in her mouth

In a January 19 TikTok video posted by @hail3ya_58, a dog’s owner placed her camera on the ground below her pup as it tried to gobble up something unknown. She told her dog to drop it, nothing that she wasn’t sure what the dog was trying to eat in the first place.

The owner attempted to open her dog’s mouth from the side, but the pup didn’t budge. Then she went in from the front, and again, the dog wouldn’t give. The owner used both hands to pry open the dog’s mouth, and she immediately gagged after realizing what was inside: a mouse.

While it is relatively more common for cats to hunt mice, dogs catch and kill occasionally. Pets are attracted to the smell of death and decay of other animals as it gives them information, according to an article from UrgentVet. Cats and dogs can detect odor and decay from long distances. It is believed they are drawn to these smells to claim their territory or camouflage their scent, which dogs often do by rolling around near the odor.

This dog, however, gave up on winning this fight and let the mouse fall out of her mouth. The owner immediately screamed as it fell directly onto her phone and covered half the screen. The dog tried her luck again to go after the mouse, but the owner pushed her away and said, “Leave it.”

Viewer Reactions

With over 1.4 million views and 223,900 likes on TikTok as of Wednesday, the video left people shrieking in disgust. However, some viewers were the least bit surprised about the dog’s actions as they’ve gone through something similar before.

“Lol dogs be sooo stressful,” commented a viewer, while a second wrote: “The change of tone ‘LEAVE IT’ so real.”

Another person commented: “I yelled! I had my puppy find one once. didn’t know what till he brought it out with his cute holding mouth. I gagged.”

Others were furious about the lack of warning, claiming it felt like the mouse dropped on them as they watched the video. Someone wrote: “Omg I jumped out of my skin,” while another asked: “Why would you do that to US?”
