A woman has been arrested after two handbags worth £3,500 were stolen from a designer shop in Nottingham city centre. The theft took place at Flannels, in Lister Gate, at approximately 1pm on Monday, February 10.
CCTV footage shows a suspect enter the shop and placing a Gucci handbag, worth £2,170, into a larger handbag. The suspect did the same with a Christian Louboutin handbag priced at £1,365 before she left the store without paying.
The alarms were triggered, however, and a staff member retrieved one of the bags after chasing the shoplifter. A 42-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of theft after being located by officers on Monday, February 17.
She remains in custody for questioning. Sergeant Chris Johnson, of the City Centre neighbourhood policing team, said: “Shoplifting isn’t a victimless crime.
“These offences hurt businesses, affect people’s livelihoods, and can ultimately result in shoppers having to pay more for items as prices go up as a result. We will continue to work with local retailers to identify shoplifters and take appropriate enforcement action against them.”
