Woman shows husband how “useful” dog’s coat is, but there’s a problem

When purchasing a jacket with pockets for her canine, this woman thought it was a great idea—so much so that she immediately put the pockets to use by placing her house keys in one of them.

Proud of her decision, TikTok user @itsyesseniaaaaaa decided to record a video showcasing the handy garment and send it to her husband. However, things didn’t go as planned.

The text layered over the clip explains that she was trying to show “how useful” the jacket is, but then she realized she had lost her house keys after walking two miles.

The March 14 clip, captioned, “we had to re-trace our steps,” quickly went viral, amassing 1.3 million views.

“Now why the hell was the dog in charge of the keys[?]” said one comment, which received more than 178,000 likes.

Newsweek is waiting for @itsyesseniaaaaaa to provide a comment.

Other comments focused on how the owner reacted. She instantly says, “oh my God, Petunia,” in a tone that suggests she isn’t happy. Some users have pointed out that she is “saying her name like it’s her fault.”

“Not you blaming Petunia,” said one user, while another responded: “Girl, she was running and they flew out.”

A third commenter joked: “No accountability on your part, just blamed on Petunia immediately. I’m glad this is on video so we would know she’s innocent—justice for Petunia.”

A fourth chimed in: “In Petunia’s defense, you didn’t even use the pocket that had a flap.”

Nobody has batted an eyelid over the small dog wearing a jacket. These days, it is the norm for owners to go all out for their furry friends.

Newsweek reached out to Kennel Club-accredited dog trainer Joe Nutkins, who has highlighted why a dog might wear a jacket.

She said: “For short haired dogs, dogs who have been shaved for surgery or dogs with health issues causing their fur to thin or fall out a dog jacket, coat or a thin t-shirt can make all the difference at any time of the year. In winter it can provide necessary warmth and comfort and in summer can protect the skin from sun burn and even wind burn.”

Nutkins, based in England, explained that dogs with thin skin, fine or no fur can sustain injuries more quickly than those with a thick coat. So, clothing can protect them during play or walks. A jacket can also prevent a dog from getting soaking wet.

“It can also provide a source of comfort. An anxious dog can find a well fitting jacket or sweater to be calming and comforting both at home and when out, and if they don’t have it on they become more stressed,” she said.

But not all dogs like wearing a jacket and some may find them irritating. Not only this, but clothing can also affect their street cred!

Nutkins added: “Sometimes dogs wearing a jacket or jumper will be singled out by other dogs such as on walks, in multiple dog households or at daycare.

“In these cases the dog wearing the jacket may find other dogs pull them about with the jacket itself and the clothing gives other dogs cause to pick on them when they otherwise wouldn’t.”

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
