A dog owner has shared hilarious footage of her pomeranian’s unexpected reaction to her returning home.
Daisy, a 27-year-old woman living in New York City, shared footage to TikTok of her pet pooch Keanu’s response.
In a video posted to TikTok under the handle @keanuthepompom, Daisy can be seen entering her bedroom in search of her precious pom pom. “Keeks?” she calls out as she walks towards her bed. There’s no response. Rounding the end of the mattress, Keanu soon comes into view, sitting by the window, motionless.
“Hi! Hi! I’m home!?” Daisy says as she approaches Keanu. The pomeranian doesn’t move an inch though, remaining stoic during what is, traditionally, a highlight of the day for most dogs. Keanu is clearly not like most dogs though. “My dog has zero reaction when I get home,” Daisy’s on screen caption reads.

Daisy, who chose not to share her last name, told Newsweek: “I’d gone out for a quick bite and was gone for about an hour.” In some ways Keanu’s response was a surprise. He’s usually quite an affectionate, high-energy dog. “Some of his favorite things to do are play with his toys, have zoomies with his ball up and down the hallway, and cuddle,” Daisy said.
However, while a little unexpected, Daisy admits Keanu has a track record for this kind of thing. She said: “This isn’t the first time Keanu has reacted this way – he’s extremely calm and unbothered!”
Keanu’s response nevertheless goes against the science-backed notion that absence makes the heart grow fonder for dogs. It’s a theory backed up by a 2011 study published in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science, highlighting how dogs behave when reunited with their owners after long periods of time.
As part of the study 12 dogs without prior separation-related behavior problems were separated from their owners for 30 minutes, 2 hours and four hours. Researchers filmed their behavior before their owner’s departure and then just after their return.
They found the dogs exhibited more intense greeting behaviors and signs of stress upon their owner’s return the longer they were apart from their owner.
Given everything Daisy and Keanu have been through together, viewers would be forgiven for assuming he would display something similar here. “I adopted Keanu almost 2 years ago when he was 2 years old,” Daisy said. “He was a show dog and 5 time champion that was about to retire, and I brought him into my life as a companion dog!”
That history is probably why Daisy isn’t taking Keanu’s frosty reception to heart though. “I think it’s hilarious and I wasn’t offended,” she said. “I know he loves me more than anything. Even if he feels excited, he doesn’t always show it. But of course, a good amount of the time, he does show excitement when I come home.”
In the meantime, she’s found the response to her video on TikTok to be amusing. At the time of writing her video has been watched 760,000 times since being posted at the end of last month. “He looks like his long distance girlfriend just surprised him,” one wrote. “He’s like, ‘Oh, it’s the roommate,'” another said with a third declaring Keanu the “”most mentally stable dog I have ever seen”
That last comment certainly chimes with Daisy’s view on things. “I think it’s a positive thing that he doesn’t have separation anxiety!” She said, “He’s cool as a cucumber.”
