BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman was pepper-sprayed in an assailant’s attempt to steal a luxury handbag the victim had just bought at the Town Center at Boca Raton, according to authorities.
The Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) is on the hunt for a person involved in an attempted robbery that took place just after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in the east parking lot at 6000 W Glades Road.
According to police, the victim was walking towards her vehicle from the mall with a shopping bag when the attempted robber approached and pepper-sprayed her. The suspect then attempted to grab the handle of the shopping bag, leading to a struggle. The alleged robber fled on foot without the bag, and the victim sustained minor injuries.
Police describe the assailant as a white woman of average height, approximately 30 to 50 years old, with brown hair. She was last seen wearing a light-colored shirt and dark pants.

Officers conducted a search of the area, but the attempted robber was not found. Police said it appears the victim was followed out of a department store after purchasing a luxury handbag.
