Woman ejected in rollover crash that killed dog, several other dogs taken to humane society in Morristown

HAMBLEN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – Several dogs were taken to the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society Sunday night after the van they were traveling in crashed and overturned.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash happened on I-81 South near mile marker 17 at around 10:30 p.m. when the van, driven by a 51-year-old woman from New Mexico, ran into the back of a Dodge Caliber before going into the median and overturning on an embankment.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected in the crash and sustained a leg and head injury. She was taken to Johnson City Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.

Following the crash, the Morristown Hamblen Humane Society said it had to take in several dogs that were riding in the van when it crashed. Monday morning, shelter officials said it was believed the van was going to Alabama and then Missouri at the time of the crash.

“These animals/groups of animals came from different places and were going to different places,” the shelter said in a social media post. “Some were from breeders and others don’t appear to have been.”

There were at least three dogs that suffered major injuries, including one that died, the shelter said. Additionally, there was at least one dog that went missing from the crash site that hasn’t been found as of Wednesday.

WVLT News reached out to the humane society for additional information but haven’t heard back.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
