Woman dies after being mauled by dogs in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Police are investigating after a woman was mauled by dogs in her backyard and later died at the hospital.

According to police, officers received a call for a shooting around 11:45 p.m. in the 5900 block of Theodore. While officers were on their way to the scene, they were advised a woman was down and being attacked by dogs, according to a neighbor.

Officers on scene found two people being bitten by dogs, and a woman being attacked by multiple dogs in the backyard.

The woman’s husband attempted to separate the dogs from his wife and sustained several bites to his arms and legs in the process.

Officers used mace and were able to divert the dogs from the woman and rush her into the home, where they applied tourniquets until EMS arrived and transported the woman to an area hospital.

The dogs fled the area but were located several houses down at 5931 Theodore. Animal Control then took custody of three dogs from the owner.

Police later informed that the woman had died in surgery. She was described as a 62-year-old who is hearing impaired.

No other injuries have been reported thus far.

This is the second case of a person being mauled to death by a dog this week.
