Woman cries for dog whose adoption fell through day he was meant to go home

A woman advocating for a dog’s adoption was torn to pieces when his adoption fell through the same day he was set to go home.

TikTok user @shabaskeet24’s friend has been fostering a Rottweiler named Jelly. This dog breed often gets a bad reputation and can be known as a guard dog. However, Jelly’s rescue organization, New Jersey-based Pixies and Paws Rescue called him “more of a big ole squish mellow” in an Instagram post early last month. This 5-month-old cuddler was ready to leave his foster home because an adopter stepped forward or so this TikToker and her friend thought.

In @shabaskeet24’s September 6 TikTok video, it showed her tearing up after learning Jelly’s adoption fell through. Not only did the adoption not happen, but it didn’t happen on the day he was supposed to go home. It broke her heart even more thinking that Jelly doesn’t even know his future family changed their minds.

Concerned about her tears, he looked back at her with hopeful eyes in the video. Jelly then gave her licks to comfort her. Even if he didn’t know his adoption fell through, he assured @shabaskeet24 that he wasn’t worried. He knew better days were ahead. In the meantime, he’ll happily enjoy outings with her and his foster parent.

Luckily, Jelly didn’t have to wait too long after the TikTok video was posted. A day later, @shabaskeet24 wrote in the comments section of her video that Jelly had been adopted.

Newsweek has reached out to @shabaskeet24 via TikTok for additional comment.

“That wasn’t the family he was supposed to be with. There’s someone better for him,” a second user posted.

A third added: “Just keep in mind that if it fell through that means it wasn’t meant be!!”

U.S. Shelter Numbers

Each year 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744 compared with January 2022, the 24Pet “Shelter Watch Report” found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs, and behavior rehabilitation.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
