Woman, child, dead after suspected dog attack in Huntingburg, police say

Two people − one of them a child − died Monday after what the police in Huntingburg, Indiana, described as a suspected dog attack.

Police responded to the incident at 3:37 p.m. Monday when dispatchers directed officers, paramedics and Dubois County Sheriff’s Office deputies to a home in the 100 block of North Geiger Street in Huntingburg.

Inside the home, officers located an unresponsive woman and an unresponsive juvenile, according to a Huntingburg Police Department news release.

“Life-saving measures were performed and the juvenile was rushed to Deaconess Memorial Hospital,” the release states. “Unfortunately, the adult female was pronounced deceased after numerous attempts of life saving measures. The juvenile also was pronounced deceased at the hospital after numerous attempts at life saving measures.”

Officials have not released either person’s name.

According to police officials, investigators suspect the woman and child were victims of a dog attack. Police removed dogs from the Geiger Street home, and Indiana State Police Crime Scene technicians were brought in to process the scene.

“This is still an ongoing and active investigation,” the HPD release states. “Police do not expect any foul play or have any concerns to public safety.”
