The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been running for 50 years and the annual contest is not about making fun of “ugly” dogs, but having fun with some wonderful characters and showing the world that these dogs are really beautiful!
The annual contest also aims to raise awareness and support for dogs yet to be placed in a loving home, many who come from puppy mills and shelters.
It’s always a wonderful idea to adopt, don’t shop, and so many times dogs that don’t look like typical dogs or have facial quirks or special needs aren’t as adopted as quickly as their healthier looking counterparts, especially senior dogs.
It’s always so wonderful to see dogs with special needs thriving in their loving forever homes, and this contest just proves that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. All dogs are good dogs, no matter how they look.

Wild Thang had previously been a contestant five other times before he took home the champion title for World’s Ugliest Dog.
When he was just a little puppy, Wild Thang contracted distemper from a rescue foster. Wild Thang survived after thousands of dollars of treatment, but not without permanent damage. His teeth did not grow in, causing his tongue to stay out and his right front leg paddles 24/7. Other than that, he is a healthy, happy ‘Glugly (glamourous/ugly’) guy according to the website for the Sonoma-Marin fair .
the website also states that He loves people, other dogs and especially his toys. His purpose in life is to promote the necessity of getting your pets vaccinated.
