Wilmington City Council vaults fines for unleashed dogs

If you’re walking a dog in Wilmington, there’s even more motivation to keep your pet on its leash.

Wilmington City Council passed an ordinance Thursday that would up to quadruple fines, including if they end up attacking someone else.

The minimum fine for an unleashed dog vaults from $250 to $1,000, with a maximum of $2,000.

A second offense will now range from $2,000-$3,000, with a $3,000-$5,000 violation for each additional time.

Councilwoman Michelle Harlee said it respects others to keep care of your pet in public.

“I know of several people who have been victims of dog bites. I hope with this ordinance that owners of animals will take it more seriously.”

Councilwoman Maria Cabrera relayed an experience with a dog.

“I, too was attacked by a dog that was off-leash. I’m happy to have my hand and my fingers. If you a pet, especially if it’s a dangerous pet, you need to be responsible, and you need to be held accountable.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
