Why 2000s-Style Bowling Bags Are Having a Moment

Love it or hate it, fashion’s obsession with the Y2K aesthetic shows no signs of slowing down. In recent years, designers have continually looked to the 2000s for inspiration—reviving everything from boho dresses to capri pants and oversized sunglasses. But nowhere has this nostalgia been more prevalent than in the realm of handbags. Take, for instance, Dior’s relaunch of its newspaper-print Saddle Bag, Prada’s revival of its nylon pochettes, and, of course, Fendi bringing back its cult-loved Baguette in 2019. And now, bowling bags are the latest early aughts-era style making a huge comeback.

For fall/winter 2025, Prada returned to its roots by sending models down the runway with extra-large versions of its iconic bowling bag—first introduced for spring/summer 2000. Bad Bunny then wore one of these oversized styles to this year’s Met Gala, causing a huge spike in interest. “Searches for ‘bowlers’ went up 54 percent compared to the day before,” notes Shelby Comroe, site editor for the RealReal. “Searches for ‘Prada bowling bag’ are still up 98 percent year over year,” she adds, showing that fanfare for the silhouette isn’t fading anytime soon.

Naturally, other brands are taking note. Saint Laurent and Prada’s sister label Miu Miu have recently debuted their own variations—with some reminiscent of the hinged-top doctor bag trend and others leaning more minimalist. Meanwhile, celeb-loved British bag brand DeMellier just dropped its own elegant buckled version, and The Row is restocking its coveted Astra Bowling Bag—a buttery soft, dual-handed silhouette. The latter is currently available for pre-order and expected to ship next month.

It’s no surprise that bowling bags are having a resurgence. “Practical and versatile, the structured, flat-bottomed shape feels polished, while the roomy interior is great for carrying everyday essentials,” says Comroe. While most modern bowling bags are still carry-alls, a few brands like Jacquemus and Marge Sherwood offer versions that are petite enough for a night out, in case you still prefer something smaller.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
