It turns out dogs don’t chase just their tails but sunsets too, as seen in a viral TikTok video.
Racking up 4.2 million views, the clip shared by Annalies (@annaliesemaya) captures the heartwarming moment a group of stray dogs sat down on a golf course to “watch the sunset together,” says the on-screen text.
The video is captioned: “My heart could not handle this. The most wholesome thing I ever did see in Bali.” It has gained 955,200 likes so far.
The September 14 clip has reduced many users to tears, and Annalies described it as the “best thing I have ever seen” in the comments.
“I am sobbing uncontrollably,” said one user.
Another wrote: “I need someone to hold my hand because I’m actually genuinely BAWLING my eyes out right now. I want them so be safe whenever they are.”
“Stray dogs can be the most free and happiest dogs,” said a third commenter. Annalies responded, “They seemed so present.”
The disappearance of the sun occurs when it dips below the horizon line, signaling the end of daylight. As the sun sets, the sky often transitions through a range of colors—warm hues like orange, pink and red are common. The colorful scene is likely to grab not only humans’ attention but that of dogs too.
VCA, one of North America’s largest animal hospital chains, with more than 1,000 veterinary practices across the U.S., Canada and Japan, said in an article: “While dogs can’t appreciate all the colors that humans do, their world is not entirely black and white. In fact, dogs live in a pretty colorful world.”
The article went on: “When it comes to distinguishing color, a dog’s normal vision is most like a person who has red-green colorblindness. Having said that, no further degrees of colorblindness have been recorded in dogs.”
Jerry Klein, the chief veterinary officer at the American Kennel Club, previously told Newsweek that dogs do not see the same colors as humans because their eyes are built differently.
“Dogs and some colorblind people are missing the red-green cones,” Klein said. “Dogs can see yellow and blue and a combination of those hues. This means they see a lot of the world as grayish-brown.”
So while it may look as if the video’s dogs are taking in a colorful sunset, their eyesight could mean there’s a different story.
Newsweek reached out to @annaliesemaya for comment and could not verify the details of the case.
