A federal judge in New York blocked on Oct. 24, 2024, efforts by Tapestry Inc. to purchase Capri Holdings for $8.5 billion. Who knew there was so much value in expensive purses? Tapestry owns the brands Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman, while Capri owns the Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors and Versace brands, per their websites.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sued in April to block the merger, arguing the resultant company would have too much power to set prices. In a burst of irony, the purse companies argued that “handbags are nonessential items whose price consumers can control by not buying them if they become too expensive.”
I like that logic: Don’t bother about us because nobody needs our product anyway.

While in custody awaiting trial, he apologized and begged the victim to drop the charges, but at trial, he testified that he lied to police and that the victim was the one who abused him.
“This defendant has been held accountable for his crimes because the victim had the courage to come forward,” said DA Charme Allen.
