My whole life, I’ve grown up with adopting and fostering dogs, and I just thought it was the perfect opportunity for me to give back to them and help them find their purpose. And I think adoption is the perfect way, whether that’s through finding a home, being a service dog or just being a kid’s best friend, combining my two passions has been, like, a huge thing for me. I have never seen something like this done before. And adoption vests haven’t been innovated in years. So I thought it was a perfect opportunity for students to create something innovative and meaningful for animals. The fashion show, I think is such a cool opportunity for the dogs to get visibility in the community. I think it’s interesting working with training the dogs and getting them used to different things that they typically wouldn’t see here in a shelter environment or in a home where there might be more people watching them, potentially applause or clapping, vests that they might have to wear that they might not be used to really help set them up for success and make sure that they have a really great time while they’re there. We’re focusing on building up different behaviors. Some dogs spend a lot of their times in the kennel, the shelter and often they’re not really given any outlets to express themselves. Giving them filled coms gives them something to do it helps mentally stimulate them and things like that. Seeing them progress over time, seeing how they can start off maybe not knowing as much or being really stressed and things like that and seeing them improve week by week. It is really cool to see. I think it’s really important to use shelter dogs since they have the hardest time finding homes. And so I’m really excited about this opportunity because we can get dogs out of the shelters. Having a dog in a kennel, I feel like doesn’t really show who that dog is. And so being able to maybe have them in a fashion show is just more enticing to see a dog on a runway and be like, Oh, wait. I like that dog’s up for adoption. That’s really cool. I’ve met so many different people and learned why they’re so passionate about adoption and as well as fashion. Just finding people that are passionate about the things I’m passionate has been so meaningful to me.
