What will happen to the dogs that attacked and fatally injured a Bexar County toddler?

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – We’re learning more about what will happen to the three dogs seized after a brutal attack on a Bexar County toddler.

1-year-old Jiryiah Johnson ended up dying from his injuries after the dogs repeatedly bit and pulled him.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says Jiryiah was being cared for by Heather Rodriguez on Monday, but the 36-year-old left the baby at home with her 13-year-old daughter.

Jiryiah and the teen were in a bedroom when one of the dogs broke through an already damaged door and began attacking the baby. Other dogs eventually joined in.

Salazar said the baby was seriously mauled and had injuries in the head and face, as well as the neck area.

All three dogs were seized by Bexar County Animal Control after the attack, though Salazar says Rodriguez initially refused to hand them over.

Now, county officials say the dog owners have given up legal rights to one of the dogs, and the two others also remain in county custody.

Texas law says a court must hold a hearing within ten days of when the animals were seized.

If that court determines the dogs did cause a death, the court will order the dogs to be put down.

Officials say that a hearing hasn’t been scheduled yet, but we’ll keep you updated when those decisions are made.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
