Before the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs square off Sunday in Super Bowl LIX, viewers can “paws” to root for all the cute “players” in the Puppy Bowl, featuring dozens of four-legged friends rolling around and wagging for all they’re worth.
This year’s Puppy Bowl XXI features 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states and two countries — including a pair of tail-wagging participants from Michigan: Rory, from Muskegon, and Trixie, from Harbor Springs.
The annual show highlights the puppies, and the dedication of the rescues and shelters that help the animals find forever homes. This year’s teams, Team Ruff and Team Fluff, will face off on the gridiron for the “Lombarky” Trophy.

All of the dogs can be adopted. Many are already adopted by the time the show airs, however, thanks to their cuteness level. Even the Puppy Bowl crew occasionally grabs a few.
“We’re transparent about that. Our goal is to find them their forever home,” one-time NFL referee and current 14-year Puppy Bowl judge Dan Schachner told USA Today last year.
