What dog-loving pool cleaner gets caught doing on camera goes viral

A dog owner filmed her pool cleaner spending over half an hour doing something that had nothing to do with his job, and now internet users are demanding a pay raise on his behalf.

The viral TikTok video, shared in August by @nakedcabbage644, shows the man in the woman’s yard, playing fetch with her two dogs instead of cleaning the pool, which still seems to have some plastic floating around. “Our pool cleaner has been just playing with our dogs for over half an hour,” reads layover text in the clip. And a caption adds: “I HAVEN’T STOPPED LAUGHING.”

The video quickly went viral, receiving over 1.1 million views and more than 173,200 likes, and internet users overwhelmingly took his side. One user, Madelyn, commented: “Give him a raise!” And Cara posted: “He deserves a tip.”

Statistics by Zippia show that the average salary for pool cleaners in America is around $15.47 per hour, which amounts to just over $32,000 a year. The salary of a dog walker is around £14.85 per hour. However, while working with dogs can be very enjoyable, cleaning a pool is definitely not fun.

Ralph Tarulli is a pool maintenance expert from New York with over seven years of experience in the field. He says in an article published by The Spruce that the most important thing to do when cleaning your pool is testing the chemical levels in the water, to make sure there is always balance.

Keeping the chemicals in the water balanced is also very important to avoid the growth of algae in your pool.

There are many different ways of cleaning a pool, and this job can be done by professionals or by the owner of the pool; and as long as the filter system and the pool itself are scrubbed clean, one deep cleaning session a week should suffice.

Having a pool can be as fun for dogs as it is for their owners, but it can also be dangerous for our pups; that’s why they should always be supervised.

Beside the risk of drowning, our pets also risk poisoning from drinking the chemical water, and while a small amount won’t kill them, too much of it can. Symptoms of pool poisoning include lethargy, bloating, vomiting, and, in severe cases, coma or death.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
