‘We’ve got plenty to love’: Limestone Veterinary Clinic readies rescued dogs for local adoption

Dozens of cute doggo faces peeked out through the fenced kennels at the Limestone Veterinary Clinic this week, each one a new addition after the clinic stepped up to accommodate the large influx of rescued animals related to a pair of March 31 animal cruelty and neglect arrests in Athens.

“We’ve got plenty to love,” said veterinarian and clinic owner Elisabeth O’Connor as the clinic readied each dog for local adoption last week — a process that interested locals already can begin online (visit alanimalservices.com).

After successfully undergoing rounds of vaccination, spaying or neutering, general medical care and some tender grooming TLC, the dogs themselves — including poodles, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, poodle mixes, Pekingese and more — will be available for qualified applicants to adopt sometime later during the upcoming week.

Though the dogs come from an environment that might not have been ideally hospitable, each has its own bright personality and plenty of affection to share. “They’re all absolutely delightful animals and they deserve a fantastic home,” said O’Connor.

“If you don’t have time to adopt one into your family right now, there are other ways to volunteer… If you’re a groomer and you’re interested in helping; if you just want to come and play with the dogs and help get them socialized, that would be fantastic — taking [them] for walks and things like that,” she added, inviting interested volunteers to contact the clinic by phone at 256-233-1515.

The adoption fee for each dog covers all of the clinic’s current interventions, including spaying or neutering as well as vaccinations plus checks for problems like heart worms (and, noted O’Connor, “thankfully, so far, every single one has been negative.”) But the recently rescued pups aren’t the only animals in need of adoption at the clinic, she added.

“I want to remind everybody that, while we’ve got all these little cute things in right now, we’ve got other animals that have been here for weeks that deserve great homes too,” said O’Connor. “…We also have a place to donate, if that’s the way that you would like to help us. But we appreciate the community stepping up and helping us take care of the situation. We’ve got some great dogs that need some great homes.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
