Watch guard dog immediately move to protect toddler: “Defend the helpless”

Hearts are melting over a dog who immediately jumps into protection mode when a UPS driver pulls up to the house in a recent Instagram clip.

A family known on Instagram as @crazyw8farm has two Great Pyrenees dogs—Lobo and Shasta. Originally bred to keep wolves and other predators away from sheep flocks, this dog is known to be protective. On this farm, not only are Lobo and Shasta protecting animals, but they also look after the children, especially the younger ones. Lobo is usually assigned to protect the kids while Shasta’s responsibilities include watching over the chickens and goats, making them a perfect duo.

One day while they were outside, Lobo jumped into action after a UPS truck driving on the road near the house put him on high alert. In the October 29 Instagram video, Lobo clings to the baby’s side. It didn’t matter if the truck was only driving by or dropping off a package. He made sure nothing would endanger his baby.

Lobo wanted to “defend the helpless,” who in his eyes was the baby.

In the video, he stares down the truck, deciding whether it could be a threat while standing over the baby. And even though they are all in the clear, Lobo doesn’t let the baby out of his sight.

As the baby crawls around, Lobo follows. He sometimes places his paw in the baby’s path to stop him from moving forward. At first, the baby looks confused, but then sits down and waits to get the green light from his furry protector.

This is nothing new for Lobo. The caption explains: “He has always followed around the youngest and smallest Waite babies since we adopted him a few years back.”

Newsweek reached out to @crazyw8farm via Instagram for additional comment.

The Instagram reel amassed over 594,000 views, 48,338 likes and 320 comments with people sharing how touched they were by the dog’s immediate response.

“They are ‘Great’ for a reason. What a noble breed,” commented a viewer, with a second saying: “Would give his life to protect. A loving Warrior.”

Others shared similar experiences with their dogs: “Our Great Pyrenees does this too!! Every time my toddler tries wandering out of the yard to explore the farm! He knows he’s supposed to stay on the grass.”

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
