Astronaut Sunita Williams reunites with her dogs after 288 days in space
After nine months stuck aboard the ISS, astronaut Sunita Williams returns home to a joyful reunion with her dogs in Houston, Texas.
While the world gave astronaut Suni Williams a warm welcome upon her return to Earth after more than 280 days in space, no one was happier to see her than her “little fat boys” – her two dogs.
Williams, in a post on X Tuesday, shared heartwarming footage of the reunion at her home in Houston, Texas, writing: “Best homecoming ever!”
In the video, Williams’ two dogs, Cutter and Gunner, can be seen jumping around her, wagging their tails and bringing sticks to play with.
The video also caught the attention of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who dropped a heart emoji in the comments.
Williams, who returned to Earth on March 18, along with NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore after spending nine months in space, in a press interaction Monday, shared the first thing she did after getting home was hug her loved ones, including her dogs.
Selected for the first crewed flight test of Boeing’s Starliner, Wilmore and Williams arrived at the International Space Station in June last year for what was meant to be a brief orbital stay. Instead, because of issues with the Starliner, the pair remained on the space station much longer than the roughly 10 days they were supposed to be there.
The experienced NASA astronauts then had to bide their time in the cosmos until they could return journey to commence. That chance came on March 18, when Wilmore and Williams could finally board another spacecraft – this one manufactured by Boeing’s competitor, SpaceX – to undock and leave the space station behind. Their water landing came after about a 17-hour voyage, with the astronauts landing off the coast of Florida in a SpaceX Dragon along with the two astronauts of a mission known as Crew-9.
Wilmore and Williams’ extended mission is the sixth longest in NASA’s history, with five astronauts having spent more consecutive days in space than the pair.
