A family in Wasilla is under investigation after Alaska State Troopers and Mat-Su Animal Care seized 21 dogs from their home following reports of neglect.
Austin McDaniel of the Alaska State Troopers explained that earlier this year, troopers were at the property for an unrelated criminal investigation when they noticed potential animal care issues. This observation prompted a joint investigation with Mat-Su Animal Care into the well-being of the dogs.
Following the seizure, the dogs were taken to the Mat-Su Borough Animal Shelter for care. The family expressed deep love for their animals, sharing the emotional impact of losing them.
“We are giving up our comfort for their kennels, for their food, for their furniture. And that’s how much we care about our animals,” said family member Terri Boyle.
The current condition of the dogs has not been released.
Animal Control recently inspected the home, and for the dogs to be returned, the family must meet several requirements and pay associated fees.
McDaniel noted that Mat-Su Animal Control will enforce local animal codes while the troopers continue a separate criminal investigation into alleged animal neglect, a crime in Alaska.
The family has until July 7th to comply with Animal Control’s conditions if they wish to bring their dogs back home.
