Washoe County DA’s office welcomes Kace the facility dog to aid crime victims

The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office has introduced its newest team member, Kace, a Canine Companions Facility Dog.

Kace will work alongside Investigator Teri Salter, providing support to victims of crime.

“Facility dogs like Kace provide tremendous support in emotionally difficult environments like ours,” said District Attorney Chris Hicks. “Their calming presence can make a meaningful difference – especially for children who have been victims of crime. In moments of fear or uncertainty, these young victims can lean on Kace for both physical comfort and emotional reassurance.”

Kace is trained in more than 40 cues and will continue to learn skills specific to her role at the District Attorney’s Office. Her abilities include playing games with children, offering comfort and deep pressure through “lap” and “visit” cues, and retrieving tissues.

For nearly 50 years, Canine Companions has trained and placed over 8,000 service dogs, including more than 500 with military veterans.

The cost of a highly trained facility dog like Kace is estimated at $50,000, but they are provided at no cost to clients, thanks to the support of donors and volunteers.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
