Washington man charged with breaking & entering, trooper shoots & kills 2 dogs while responding

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Washington man is in custody and two dogs are dead after deputies and a trooper responded to a breaking and entering call.

Deputies say they were called to a reported breaking and entering of a vehicle around 7:30 a.m. Saturday at a Clark’s Neck Rd. address near Washington.

A state highway patrol trooper who was in the area for an unrelated investigation responded to help deputies.

Deputies say, when the trooper got there, he reported that two Belgian Malinois dogs were attacking a suspect, 43-year-old Kevin Toler.

When the trooper got there, however, officials say the dogs instead started running toward him in an “aggressive manner.”

Officials say the trooper shot and killed both dogs.

Investigators later learned that Toler, of Washington, had broken into a victim’s vehicle, attempted to break into a home nearby that belonged to another victim and had assaulted the vehicle’s owner.

Toler was arrested and charged with felony break/enter motor vehicle, attempted breaking or entering of building and misdemeanor assault on a female.

He was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center and denied bond.

Pitt County Animal Control was told about the situation involving the dogs, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
