A Washington County animal shelter is asking the community for help after more than 2 dozen dogs and several cats were rescued from a home last week, KCRG reports.Last Friday, the Washington Police Department arrested John Zaiss and Heather Egbert on four counts of child endangerment. Police removed four children, but they also removed 29 dogs and several cats. There were other dead dogs and animals found in the home, as well as feces and urine covering the floor. One week later, the Paws and More shelter in Washington is carrying 10 dogs and five cats to ensure they receive the medical attention they need. Neither Zaiss nor Egbert is facing any charges related to the animals, but Director Amber Talbot says these animals needed the most care of any rescue she has been a part of.“This is definitely the worst,” she said.Talbot says they’re currently working to get all the animals ready to move into foster care where they can eventually be adopted.“It was mostly dehydration, secondary infections, flea infestations, and a lot of stuff that requires a lot of labor-intensive care,” she said.Board Member Elaine Moore said that care also comes with a cost.“We are a nonprofit and we depend solely on the kindness of people from the bottom of their heart to give us donations so we can fund the best care that our staff can give,” said Moore.Besides monetary donations, Talbot said they need more dry puppy chow, wet dog food, blankets, towels, and sweaters. The community has already started to jump in to help.“We’re very blessed for all the foster community that we have,” said Moore. Those wanting to help Paws and More Animal Shelter can follow this link.» Download the free KCCI app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google PlayGet the latest headlines from KCCI

One week later, the Paws and More shelter in Washington is carrying 10 dogs and five cats to ensure they receive the medical attention they need. Neither Zaiss nor Egbert is facing any charges related to the animals, but Director Amber Talbot says these animals needed the most care of any rescue she has been a part of.
“This is definitely the worst,” she said.
Talbot says they’re currently working to get all the animals ready to move into foster care where they can eventually be adopted.
“It was mostly dehydration, secondary infections, flea infestations, and a lot of stuff that requires a lot of labor-intensive care,” she said.
Board Member Elaine Moore said that care also comes with a cost.
“We are a nonprofit and we depend solely on the kindness of people from the bottom of their heart to give us donations so we can fund the best care that our staff can give,” said Moore.
Besides monetary donations, Talbot said they need more dry puppy chow, wet dog food, blankets, towels, and sweaters. The community has already started to jump in to help.
“We’re very blessed for all the foster community that we have,” said Moore.
