Huntington will host a “Walk & Wag” for dogs and their best friends, humans, on May 10 at Heckscher Park.
The Town of Huntington-created charity Give a Dog a Dream, Inc. raises money to fund surgeries, medications, treatments and behavior training to boost the adoption of dogs at the Huntington animal shelter.
People can sign up and walk their dogs at the fundraiser, and get a “Give a Dog a Dream” scarf and a goody bag. Several fun activities, including a dog agility test, food trucks, a beer tent, and vendors selling dog clothing, accessories and treats are planned. The event is set for noon to 4 p.m.
In October, the group plans to hold a dog costume parade.
“As the Huntington councilperson who worked to open the gates to dogs at Heckscher Park, I’m particularly jazzed to be using this park as what will be a very exciting venue for both dog owners and non-dog owners who might derive some quirky entertainment observing the fun we have in store that day for dogs and humans, including food trucks and a beer tent,” Cergol said.
