HARVEY, Mich. (WLUC)—A veterinary clinic in Marquette County is offering rehabilitation services to pets and teaching pet owners how to keep them fit.
Yogi, the dog, started up the treadmill Thursday and went through a session of hydrotherapy. A service like this is available at Bayshore Veterinary Clinic in Harvey to help dogs recover after surgery.
Rehabilitation Practitioner Laura Chosa said the weeks after surgery are just as important as the procedure itself.
“We’ve started to focus more on the aftercare for especially orthopedic procedures. So building their strength and mobility postoperatively is so important,” Chosa said.
The facility opened in April and has been servicing dogs post-operation.
Chosa said services like a water treadmill and laser therapy are vital to giving pets the best care. The clinic has received clients from the Houghton area, and owners were willing to make the long trip.
“I always ask the client, “You know, is this something that you’re going to be able to come here weekly for because it’s a drive” and they’re like you know we want to do everything that we can do to get them feeling better faster and so that’s why I’m here,” Chosa said.
Yogi’s owner Gretchen Bichler said she was very pleased with the physical therapy provided over the last ten weeks.
Chosa says she teaches and shows clients how to properly exercise your dogs after they wrap up with therapy and adds the more dogs she sees the more passionate she becomes about the practice.
