The Tangipohoa Sheriff’s Department released the following statement:
“Three Teens Arrested in Connection to Animal Cruelty Video
TANGIPAHOA (July 27, 2024)- The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested three Ponchatoula teenagers in connection with a viral video of animal cruelty.
One 15-year-old boy was arrested on one count of Animal Cruelty. The other two 15-year-old boys were each arrested on one count of Principal to Animal Cruelty.
Earlier today (July 27), the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a video that was circulating on social media showing a male abusing a dog on what appeared to be a hunting trip. It was evident a second individual was recording the crime and a third individual was present as well, neither intervening on the dog’s behalf.
Detectives were able to determine the incident occurred in the Manchac area early in 2023 and were able to determine the three individuals were teenagers from the Ponchatoula area. Warrants were obtained for their arrest and all three were located at their homes.
The dog in the video was also located and assessed. The dog, at this time, was found to be in healthy condition and of a happy disposition.
TPSO detectives have engaged with other agencies for potential additional action as this investigation continues.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker wants to thank the members of the public who brought this incident to our attention through the proper channels and supported our efforts with confidence and patience.”

We write to you with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency regarding a matter of grave concern: the safety and well-being of animals residing at the home of Cole Prevost in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Tangipahoa Parish is celebrated for its rich biodiversity and the deep respect its residents have for animal life. This community has always taken pride in fostering a compassionate environment where all creatures are valued and protected. It is therefore deeply distressing to witness potential mistreatment and neglect of animals within our midst.
The Louisiana Animal Welfare Act (Act 428) was established with the explicit purpose of ensuring the safety and humane treatment of animals. This legislation underscores the responsibilities of both animal owners and law enforcement agencies to create and maintain environments free from harm. It is imperative that these laws be enforced rigorously and without exception.
**Immediate Action Required**

3. **Ensure Animal Safety**: Arrange for the immediate relocation of all animals from the residence to safe and humane environments. Partner with local animal shelters and rescue organizations to provide the necessary care and rehabilitation for these animals.
**The Role of Law Enforcement**The fundamental purpose of a law enforcement agency is not only to uphold and maintain law and order but also to protect the helpless and innocent within the community. Animals, particularly those subjected to potential neglect and abuse, rely on the intervention of compassionate and vigilant authorities to secure their well-being. It is within your power and duty to act as their guardians and advocates.
