Video shows inauguration attendees being forced to dump purses outside

Fashion fans were left horrified after it was revealed that inauguration attendees were forced to dump their handbags to get into the event due to a last minute change of venue.

Thousands of people headed to the Capital One Arena to watch Donald Trump get sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday morning.

Naturally, many dressed in their best looks and grabbed their favorite accessories for the big day, but unfortunately, tons of people were in for a shock when they arrived and found out they weren’t allowed to bring in their purses.

While the inauguration’s official website initially stated that small bags were allowed, after the location of the event was switched to an indoor arena to combat the freezing cold weather, guests were told no bags at all would be permitted.

Not wanting to miss out on the event and with no where to put their totes, that meant many of the guests were forced to leave them outside of the venue.

Photos and videos show piles upon piles of handbags, many of which were appeared to be from designer brands, lying on the ground, and social media users were not pleased with the amount of expensive purses that were wasted.

People on X, formerly Twitter, claimed to have found Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci bags among the piles.

WTOP News uploaded some footage of strangers going through the purses that were left behind to TikTok, and one woman even claimed that she found someone’s car keys in one of them.

‘I found a bag with a car key in it, I was able to contact the person through their college ID and I’m waiting to give her car key back,’ she shared.

‘It’s unbelievable to see how many people would leave their own belongings,’ someone else said. ‘I think this stuff should be donated to people in need.’

Viewers quickly took to the comment section to share their outrage over the ordeal.

‘Leaving their ID, bags, car keys… what?? That’s insane,’ one person wrote.

‘This is weird guys. Surely they could take their keys and wallet or ID,’ someone else added.

‘This is insane,’ a third comment simply read, while a fourth said, ‘My jaw is on the floor.’

‘That’s the power of Trump, people leaving there bags, just to see him, they could go home and watch on TV,’ another user added.

‘The waste and they don’t care… what the actual…’ a different person commented.

‘Unbelievable that people are taking their stuff,’ someone else scathed.

In a press release, the United States Capitol Police stated that the only bags smaller than 12 inches by 12 inches by five inches are allowed.

However, that was when it was supposed to take place on the west front yard of the US Capitol building.

It was moved to Capital One Arena, which says on its website that it has a ‘strict no bag policy.’

‘Bags, backpacks and purses will not be permitted inside the Arena,’ it adds.

‘Wallet-size clutches no larger than five inches by seven inches, medical bags and parenting bags no larger than 14 inches by 14 inches by six inches will be permitted and subject to security screening.’

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
