A vet has gone viral after revealing her theory about what a dog’s breed says about their owner—and internet users couldn’t agree more.
As an emergency veterinarian, Indya Woods regularly sees pets with their owners at work, as well as when she’s out with her own dogs. Over the years, she’s picked up on the ways that different owners interact with their dogs, and even drawn links between dog breeds and their owner’s personality type.
Woods, of Dallas, Texas, told Newsweek that a dog’s breed can be quite telling about their owner’s personality.
“The human to animal bond is something I see a lot of inside the hospital, but also with pets and their parents when I’m out on a walk or just grabbing a bite to eat,” Woods said.
As it turns out, a dog’s breed may not just define them, but also their owner’s characteristics too. So, whether you have a German shepherd, a Labrador, or maybe a dachshund, Woods explains what that says about you.

She said: “German shepherd people, just like their pets, are some of the most reliable, committed, and dependable people you will meet. Labrador owners are here for a good time. As long as they’re somewhere enjoying the outdoors and good food, they’re all set.
“Spaniel people are like a little ball of sunshine. They love to be around others and brighten up someone’s day. Whereas dachshund people are similar to me: one moment we love to be out and about having a good time, then the next moment we just want to go home and bury ourselves in bed and sleep for hours. Snacks must be included.”
For anyone wondering, Woods has two miniature dachshunds, which she thinks is a sign that she loves to eat, sleep, enjoy life, and “maybe yap a little too much.”
She suggests that dachshund owners are generally very unserious people, but she notes that people can choose any breed they feel is the right fit for them.
However, there is still one breed that she can’t quite work out, which is chihuahuas. She told Newsweek that their “owner personality range is very wide,” making it difficult to work out the right match.
Woods shared her theory on TikTok (@doctorindya) on March 29, and the video has gone viral with over 919,900 views and 114,100 likes at the time of writing. Alongside the video, the TikTok caption reads: “your dog breed says so much about you and I refuse to believe otherwise.”
In the video, Woods suggests that golden retriever owners are casual “but they get the job done,” while Doberman owners are very serious people.
The online reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, as Woods has connected with plenty of pet owners who agreed with her analysis, and others who offered alternative suggestions too.
“The reaction online has been more than I expected, and I’ve loved reading through the comments and getting a good laugh. I love that no matter how serious or unserious we may be, or no matter how right or wrong my theory may be, we’re able to bond over how much we love our pets as they bring so much joy to our lives,” Woods said.
Since the video was shared on TikTok, it has already amassed over 7,800 comments as internet users lauded Woods’ theory.
One comment reads: “Frenchie owners are so unserious.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “Corgi owners love fun and whimsy.”
Another person added: “So we’re just skipping over Boxers? We’re equal parts chaotic, goofy, and loyal—life’s never boring with us!”
While one commenter joked: “I have a German shepherd and a wiener dog. I guess I’m a conflicted soul.”
