VESTAL (WBNG) — The Vestal Public Library hosted “Reading for Therapy Dogs” event to help encourage learning with the youth on Monday.
Children were able to grab any book from the shelves of the library and sit down with several therapy dogs to practice their reading skills.
The reading sessions help to give children a low-stress environment to work on their reading at their own rate.
12 News spoke with event attendee Ellen Baggerman about her experience with the children over the past three years.
“They love to read to the dogs, and they don’t feel threatened when they read to the dogs. So, I think that’s the best part, there’s no judgment,” Baggerman said. “They read to the dogs, and they pet the dogs. They can just enjoy being with them, and it’s just a good experience all around.”
If you are interested in bringing your child to the library to spend some quality time reading with dogs, the event is held regularly every other week at the Vestal Public Library.
