Officers on the scene confiscated the dogs because of the unsanitary conditions inside the vehicle including overcrowding, severe neglect and malnourishment.
OMAK, Wash. — Omak Police received a report last Saturday about a vehicle fire that had been extinguished. When they arrived, the Fire Chief discovered the vehicle was home to 21 dogs. According to a press release from the police department, many of the dogs appeared to be malnourished.
Law enforcement was quickly called to the scene following the discovery.
According to the fire department, the vehicle owner was living in the car and used a propane heater to stay warm when the fire occurred.
Members of the community performed life-saving measures on at least three of the animals.

Police say the animals were transported to a city shelter where they were evaluated. None required emergency medical care or euthanasia. However, several displayed signs of neglect and emaciation, signaling the need for continued care and attention.
