HOLMES COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – A Northeast Ohio animal shelter is currently overflowing with dogs after some unexpected intakes, increasing an urgent need for people to adopt or foster the animals.
The Holmes County Dog Warden’s Department is currently housing 21 dogs at their facility, which has just 14 kennels, and they anticipate taking in more strays this week.
On Monday, three dogs were surrendered to the agency following the unexpected death of their owner.
Two of the dogs, Drako, a mixed breed, and Kodak, who is believed to be Dachshund/Pit bull mix, are “doing great and warming up quickly” but will need to be evaluated prior to being made available for adoption, the agency said Tuesday.
In the meantime, there are many other good boys and girls who are ready for a new home right now.
The Holmes County Dog Warden’s website has a full list of adoptable dogs as well as photos of strays that could become available for adoption if they go unclaimed.
The fee to adopt is $52 and includes a license, microchip, vaccination, leash, and a collar.
In some cases, the agency says a dog will come fully vetted and Holmes County residents get a spay/neuter voucher.
