On Monday, July 15, 2024, over 40 dogs were discovered abandoned at Hammertime Dog Park in Belvidere, Illinois, and now Boone County Animals Services needs public donations to help care for the influx of animals.
A Heartbreaking Situation in Belvidere, Illinois
My heart is breaking right now. How could anyone abandon 50 dogs overnight in STORMY WEATHER at Hammertime Dog Park in Belvidere? To me, this isn’t just a lack of responsibility, it’s pure cruelty. These pups, who were probably excited for some playtime, were left scared and confused in horrible weather conditions and it makes me MAD!

Thankfully, the dogs are safe and now in the care of Boone County Animal Services but taking care of 50 extra dogs is a huge burden on their resources and their cages are full. That’s where we, the dog-loving public, come in.
Boone County Animal Services has provided a list of donation items they are in need of ASAP, not only for the 50 dogs that just came in, but for the rest of the animals currently in the shelter’s care too…

Besides food and treats, these sweet abandoned dogs need loving homes to play in where they will learn to feel safe and loved again. At this time, I don’t believe they are ready to be adopted, but if you are able to open your home and heart to foster them, please reach out to Boone County Animal Services as soon as possible for more information.
No one may know where these dogs came from and what kind of life the were living up until today, but I think its safe to say their best days are ahead of them.

I hope these sweet dogs find loving homes soon, or I might just have to adopt them myself. (I’m only half joking. LOL!)
