UPDATE: Ephrata Woman Hospitalized After Attack by Six Dogs

5:30 P.M. UPDATE — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update regarding the recent dog attack. Following standard procedure, the six dogs involved in the incident have been placed under a 10-day hold to verify their vaccination status. After an attack on a human, when dogs are seized by Animal Control Officers, they undergo this holding period before being humanely euthanized.

The dogs’ owner has been cited with an infraction for each of the six animals, classified as Potentially Dangerous/Dangerous Dogs. As this is a first offense, the fine amounts to $1,025 per dog, totaling $6,150.

Authorities say a key figure in this event was the victim’s neighbor, who acted heroically upon hearing cries for help. Although their identities are being protected to respect privacy, the neighbor’s swift response was crucial in saving the victim’s life.

EPHRATA – A 67-year-old woman from rural Ephrata was hospitalized on Tuesday morning after being attacked by six dogs.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the 8000 block of Road 10-Northwest, where the victim’s cries for help were heard by a nearby neighbor. Upon hearing the screams, the neighbor intervened and, once the attack ceased, drove the woman back to her home.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and began treating the woman for her extensive injuries. She was then transported to Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata for further medical care. The current status of her condition remains unknown.

The owner of the dogs, who lives nearby, surrendered the animals to the Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers. The six dogs have been identified as either pitbulls or pitbull-mix breeds and are currently being held at Grant County Animal Outreach for a 10-day observation period.
