Officers from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department teamed up with Lafayette Animal Control and the Lafayette Fire Department to rescue two dogs that were trapped in a coulee.

ULPD was dispatched to the coulee behind the Legacy Park Apartments located at 201 Girard Park Cir, near campus where a boxer and a German shepherd were standing in water frantically trying to escape. Through some coaxing, the german shepherd eventually climbed out and was tended to by Lafayette Animal Control officers.
However, the boxer made many attempts to climb out of the coulee but kept sliding back down into the standing water.
ULPD Officers knew they needed to act quickly or they would risk the terrified boxer drowning in the standing water. They teamed up with Lafayette Animal Control and the Lafayette Fire Department and finally brought the dog to safety on dry land.
“We are grateful for the teamwork displayed in this situation,” ULPD stated in a social media post. “A huge thank you to Officer Alexander, Officer Gondron, Animal Control, and the Lafayette Fire Department for their assistance in ensuring a safe rescue.”
Now that both dogs have been rescued, hopefully, they can be reunited with their owner. At this time they were unsure if the dogs wandered off and chased something into the coulee or if they were abandoned.
Anyone with information regarding the dogs or who they may belong to should contact Lafayette Animal Control.
