Authorities said Monday unattended cooking is to blame for a fire that ended the lives of several dogs in Cape Coral.
According to Cape Coral Fire, authorities responded to the 1500 block of Southeast 19th Lane about 10:45 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor reported a fire.
When firefighters arrived, they reported they did not see cars in the driveway and neighbors did not know if there was anyone in the home.
The fire department said some firefighters began fire attack while others searched the home.
Firefighters found an unresponsive victim in cardiac arrest who they immediately removed from the smoke-filled home. First responders resuscitated the woman and took her to the hospital.
The fire department said the woman is in stable condition.
According to the fire department, firefighters also found nine dogs in the home and provided all of them with oxygen.
The fire department said they revived three of the canines, but six of them did not make it.
According to the fire department, authorities determined unattended cooking led to the blaze after another resident unintentionally left a pan of oil on the stove before they left the home.
The fire district said there were no working smoke alarms to alert occupants of the fire.
