Ultimate ‘tail’-gating party at Red Apple Farm in Phillipston: Here’s what to expect

It’s time for some pre-game fun, fur, and frolic again this weekend in Phillipston.

The Red Apple Farm will host its third annual Puppy Bowl from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, providing an opportunity for local dog enthusiasts and their four-footed friends to burn off some energy before settling in to watch the Super Bowl.

Despite the name, the “tail”-gating party is open to canines of all ages, according to Loryn Killay, the farm’s digital marketing specialist, who said about 200 pups showed up for last year’s event.

“Our first Puppy Bowl was actually just a Brew Barn event,” she said. “Last year was the first year it became farm-wide, and we had such an incredible turnout. The event receives a lot of love, and it’s a great way for people and their dogs to get out during the winter.”

To be clear, there will be no organized game at the event – no winners or losers – just plenty of space to play and several trails to walk.

“Also, folks without dogs are more than welcome to attend,” Killay added.

Attractions include off-leash area and ‘pup cups’

The attractions at Puppy Bowl III, which is a free event, will include an off-leash area where dogs can mingle and play; bacon-flavored bubbles; “pup cups” from the Brew Barn; football-themed photo ops; a canine kissing booth; and selected vendors selling dog-related merchandise.

“This year will not have as many vendors, but just as much fun,” Killay said. “We found that folks truly just want to hang out with others and their dogs.”

Plenty for humans to enjoy at Puppy Bowl III

There will be plenty for humans to do at the event, too. The farm’s store will be open, with fresh donuts, fudge and popcorn available to take home and enjoy during Super Bowl LIX. Wings will be available for takeout at the Brew Barn.

The Red Apple Farm will host its third annual Puppy Bowl from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Not Just Rita will be providing live music at the event between 1 and 4 p.m.

Killay said the farm was already a very dog-friendly attraction, so hosting an annual pre-game event for furry football fans was a logical decision.

“Dogs are allowed in the Brew Barn, the farm store, the Cidery – anywhere on the farm you go, your dog can go, too,” she said. “In the fall, we even have dogs join their families on hayrides.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
