VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A 2-year-old child was attacked by two dogs Sunday night in the Rancho Road area of Warren County, according to Chief Deputy Bobby Stewart of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Sunday, May 4, Vicksburg-Warren 911 received a call reporting that a child had been attacked. Deputies responded to the scene at 9:52 p.m. and found the child with injuries to the face and ear. The child was reportedly in the front yard with family members when the incident occurred.
By the time law enforcement arrived, the dogs had fled the scene. The child was treated at the scene by fire department medics and transported to a Jackson-area hospital. The child has since been treated and released.
As required by Mississippi state law, Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
Deputies have been patrolling the area since Sunday, searching for the dogs involved. On Tuesday night, one of the animals — described as a black-and-white pit bull — was captured and taken to the Warren County Humane Society, Stewart said.
Deputies are still searching for the second dog, a brown-and-white pit bull also believed to be involved in the attack.
“We’ve been actively searching for the dog at large and reaching out to the community, asking them to call 911 if they see this dog,” Stewart said.
