Two dogs rescued after they jump from highway to rooftop of popular downtown doggy daycare

Lucy’s Doggy Day Care & Spa says the pups were spotted on the roof by someone sitting in traffic on the highway, who called them to let them know.

SAN ANTONIO — An incredible rescue mission took place on Tuesday after a commuter stuck in traffic on Interstate 10 in San Antonio spotted two dogs frolicking on the roof of a popular downtown doggy daycare.

Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa received a phone call around 7 a.m. from someone who spotted the pair of canines on the roof of their building. The dogs had jumped from the elevated highway down to the rooftop, which is about a two-foot leap of faith.

The two pups made the risky jump and then were stranded on the building until help arrived.

Amazing teams from the San Antonio Fire Department as well as City of San Antonio Animal Care Services arrived on the scene and quickly sprang into action. Whenever a call is made to SAFD about an animal, ACS is required to show up as well.

The firefighters tried their best to entice the dogs to allow them to be rescued, but the dogs were not having it. A dog park attendant named David gladly jumped in to save the day… and the dogs.

“The moment he reached the roof, the dogs ran straight to him, tails wagging, and were safely brought down,” said Hannah Snyder, marketing Coordinator with Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa.

As the firefighter said to David, “Earning a pup’s trust can take a long time, and you just did it within minutes.”

Lucy’s tells us that both dogs are now safe and are being cared for by ACS. One of the dogs has a microchip, and ACS is reaching out to the owner to hopefully reconnect them with their family.

“We’re so grateful for our community partners and our brave staff who always go the extra mile—or in this case, a few extra feet up,” said Hannah.

Lucy’s Doggy Daycare & Spa says they will make sure to keep an eye on their status at ACS, to ensure the pair don’t slip through the cracks. They said they will work with local rescues to try and find them homes if the pair of dogs end up on the euthanasia list.

“One of the pups was microchipped, so we are hoping the owners come forward,” said Hannah. “We have taken in fosters from ACS’ capacity list before in the spirit of Lucy’s Lends A Paw, and won’t hesitate to do it again.”

Obviously the dogs knew that for an “arfin” good time, Lucy’s Doggy Daycare is the place to go!

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
