Two dogs killed, dropped on the side of rural road near Crawfordsville

A dog owner and his girlfriend said they are questioning who or why a person would shoot their dogs and drop them off on the side of the road near Crawfordsville.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ore. — A dog owner and his girlfriend said they are questioning who or why a person would shoot their dogs and drop them off on the side of the road near Crawfordsville.

The 18-month-old Siberian Huskies, Puff and Babies, were often seen walking together around the small community. Owner Jack Harden said he raised the dogs from birth, and they have never shown aggression towards anyone they come across.

Harden said they went a full day without being seen by anyone, which he said was unusual.

“Overnight came and still no sign of them — usually they would come back, but they’re just 18-month-old pups,” Harden said.

Puff and Babies

The two dogs were only 18 months old at the time of their deaths.

Eventually, Harden and his girlfriend were told that Puff and Babies bodies were found miles outside of town. He said they were in an area he believes they would never go. Harden’s girlfriend, Priscilla Wood-Vanderark, said when they were found, their white coats were covered in blood from gunshot wounds.

“It was terrible. It was — it was terrible. I was more upset than I was angry at first,” Vanderark said. “My sister put them in sleeping bags, so we wouldn’t have to see them, but I could see their tails.”

Neighbors said the area where the dogs were found is infamous for animals and game being dumped there. When the dogs were found, they appeared to have been placed directly on the remains of a dead deer. Vanderark said the deer’s legs were almost tied around their dog’s necks.

“The deer legs were tied together, so it had been from a hanging deer, and they’d thrown the dogs on top of them,” Vanderark said. “I liked to go to that place. Now, I’m never going to go there… you can see the drag marks and everything.”

Resting place

The area where the dogs were found is known for is frequently used as a dump site for dead animals.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the situation while the family waits for any news on the situation. With Crawfordsville being such a small community, Vanderark said there is hope someone knows more about the killings.

“I don’t know why you had to go and dump them somewhere. You know where [Puff and Babies] house was,” Vanderark said. “Everybody knows where [Puff and Babies] house is. I just don’t understand it.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
